ECCE Curriculum Implementation Guidelines

Comprehensive guide for implementing the Early Childhood Care & Education curriculum at Anganwadi Centres

Social Welfare Department, Meghalaya Updated: January 12, 2026 Version 3.2

These guidelines provide a comprehensive framework for implementing the ECCE curriculum at Anganwadi Centres. It covers age-appropriate activity planning, learning outcomes assessment, and strategies for engaging children aged 3-6 years in structured early learning experiences.

1. Introduction

The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) curriculum is designed to provide a structured yet flexible framework for promoting holistic development in children aged 3-6 years. This document outlines the implementation guidelines for all Anganwadi Centres in Meghalaya.

2. Curriculum Structure

The ECCE curriculum is organized around six developmental domains: physical development, cognitive development, language and literacy, socio-emotional development, creative expression, and cultural awareness. Activities should be planned to cover all domains across the week.

3. Daily Schedule

Each day at the AWC should follow a structured schedule that includes free play, circle time, structured learning activities, outdoor play, nutrition, and rest. The recommended schedule allows for 3 hours of structured activities per day.

4. Assessment Framework

Assessment of children's progress should be ongoing and observation-based. Use the developmental milestone checklists provided to track each child's growth across all six domains. Formal assessments should be conducted quarterly.

5. Inclusive Practices

All activities must be designed to include children with diverse abilities. Adaptations should be made for children with special needs, and materials should be available in both Khasi and Garo languages.
